Twitter Tools

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

After playing around with Twitter Tools last month I had realized that the dates of my daily digests were all set to Jan 1, 2009. I had to disable the plugin and have recently been informed of the latest update. I have re-enabled the Twitter Tools plugin and it seems as though things are now progressing chronologically as expected.

Only time will tell!

WordPress has just released the WP app in the iPhone app store. This is a first blog attempt and thus far I am happy to say it looks like a great addition!

More to come as I play around with it and test thing out.

Rock Band releases “Still Alive”

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

Ok yes, we all know that I’m a geek, can we move on now?

Coulton performs Rock Band DLC ‘Still Alive’ with Leo Laporte, Veronical Belmont and Merlin Mann. The song, for those who don’t know, was written, produced and performed by Jonathan Coulton for the rolling credits to the game called “Portal“.

What a great venue to get a beautiful and funny song out there for the general public as well to help JoCo’s traction to get his awesome songs introduce to more people.

Comcast port blocking

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

So I’ve been in contact with my email host provider all morning trying to figure out why as of this morning I can’t send out email, they’re a great email host and always quick to respond.

We finally get to the point where we verified that everything is setup properly (of course it is, nothing has changed on my end in over a year). Finally the discussion about blocked ports arises and sure enough, it seems as though Comcast is now blocking port 25 for SMTP connections. So, I’ve changed it to port 2525 and everything seems to be working fine.

My question is this:
Was this change on Comcast’s end specific to my and my IP address or was this a blanket change that is affecting more people than just myself?

How can they justify just stopping traffic on port 25 without letting everyone know they are going to do it? I can’t even imagine how many people are pulling out their hair this morning because they can’t send out email and they have no idea why.

COME ON COMCAST – COMMUNICATION IS KEY!!

Ipod saves Soldier’s Life?

Friday, April 6th, 2007

Happened across this on Flickr.

The poster said:
“My friend’s wife’s uncle works in a military hospital and told me about this. Its pretty amazing. Kevin Garrad (3rd Infantry Division) was on a street patrol in Iraq (Tikrit I believe) and as he rounded the corner of a building an armed (AK-47) insurgent came from the other side.

The two of them were within just a few feet of each other when they opened fire. The insurgent was killed and Kevin was hit in the left chest where his iPod was in his jacket pocket. It slowed the bullet down enough that it did not completely penetrate his body armor. Fortunately, Kevin suffered no wound.”
